People usually book a gutter clean when what they actually have is one blocked pipe. The tell is location: a full gutter overflows more or less evenly along its length, while a blocked downpipe overflows at one consistent point, every single time, no matter how clean the gutter looks. If you can point to the spot, it is the pipe.
Three places, in order of likelihood. The top, where the pipe meets the gutter and a wad of wet leaves has compacted into the outlet. A bend, where debris that made it into the pipe has stopped at the first change of direction. Or below ground, in the stormwater line the downpipe feeds into — which is a different job with a different fix, and we will tell you straight away if that is what we find rather than charging you to keep flushing a pipe that is already clear.
Clearing a downpipe is easy to fake. Water will disappear down a pipe that is still two-thirds obstructed, and it will look fine on a dry day. We run water through at volume at the end of the job and show you the result, because the only way to know a line is genuinely clear is to load it and watch.

If the overflow happens at one consistent spot every time it rains, it is the downpipe. If water spills more or less evenly along the gutter, it is the gutter. When in doubt, a standard clean covers both — every downpipe gets flushed as part of it.
